Myths About Personal Training Busted

03 January 2023

Personal trainers have picked up quite a few misconceptions over the years.

One thing for sure is that it’s not lavish. Just like any job, it comes with its pros and cons. So to give you a clearer view, here are 5 personal training myths busted.

1.Personal trainers work out all day.

This is not true. Personal trainers will have a set time to work out, whether in the morning, between clients or in the evening. They dedicate at least an hour to their fitness routine, just like anyone else would. Perhaps within sessions, they will demonstrate to a client how to perform an exercise, but that’s it!

2.Trainers only offer fitness routines.

Personal trainers provide more than just a tailored workout routine. They are there as your mentor - to support and guide you. Here are some more benefits of personal training:

-You’ll learn about your body, health and fitness -Increase your accountability and consistency -It helps you set SMART goals -Get a bespoke fitness plan -Receive nutritional advice

3.All trainers are ripped.

While some trainers are in a ‘ripped’ shape, this does not mean that every personal trainer will be this way. There’s no ‘one-size-fits-all’ when it comes to personal trainers. Everyone is different.

A personal trainer will use exercises to achieve different goals. For example, some may train to enhance their core or practise a sport, like boxing.

4.Personal trainers will guarantee my fitness goals.

While this is true, it’s still all up to you. Even though personal trainers are trained and qualified to push you to new limits, ultimately, it’s you that needs to put the work in.

Sure, personal trainers have the personal and professional skills to guide people in the right direction. But if you’re not willing to follow their path, you cannot expect to get to your destination. A qualified personal trainer will design a workout program that suits you. All you need to do is follow it to reach your fitness goals.

Personal training is expensive.

The average cost for a personal trainer per hour is between £30 - £60. The price they charge also depends on their personal training qualifications. Most trainers and gyms will offer a free trial workout session before agreeing to a schedule. Personal training should rather be seen as an investment rather than an expense.
