Special Certificate in Personal Training

This OFQUAL-regulated qualification gives learners the knowledge and skills to work with individuals and groups of clients in a personal training setting. Successful achievement of the qualification will allow the learner to gain employment within an organisational setting or alternatively in a self-employed environment. The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.

We are approved to deliver this special course which includes level 2 gym instructing and level 3 personal training by the NCFE and YMCA Awards awarding organisations.

Learners will cover:

  • Anatomy and physiology including: the heart and circulatory system
  • the musculoskeletal system
  • postural and core stability
  • the nervous, endocrine and energy systems and their relation to exercise and health
  • how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
  • how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
  • how to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
  • how to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
  • how to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with apparently healthy adults of all ages
  • how to deliver exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for apparently healthy adults of all ages

  • Health, Safety and Welfare in a Fitness Environment
  • Principles of Exercise, Fitness and Health
  • Know How to Support Clients Who Take Part in Exercise and Physical Activity
  • Applying the Principles of Nutrition to a Physical Activity Programme
  • Programming Personal Training with Clients
  • Delivering Personal Training

The course is assessed by:

  • Practical examination
  • Assessment workbook

Once you have completed this course you can go on to study the level 4 specialist qualifications and the level 3 GP referral qualification. You can choose to do this as a stand-alone course or part of one of our exciting packages. This course does not provide access on to The Register of Exercise Professionals (EREPS) or CIMSPA. To be eligible for either you must do additional units which are mapped to the 2020 qualification specification guidance. These units are priced at £49 each and you will need to complete an additional enrolment form.
